On Saturday the 5th November, we woke to a very wet morning. A few phone calls were exchanged and a pitch inspection thankfully gave the nod for the Junior Leinster Semi-Final to take place in Tadgh Downey Park between Cappagh(Kildare) and The Harps(Laois). The pitch was in great condition considering the weather that had preceded this fixture.

Looking at the team sheets, both teams had names synonymous with success at both club and county levels. Rivals of each other on past occasions on the big stage.

From the moment, referee Max Molloy from Wicklow blew the whistle the game was very tight. Niamh Boland for Cappagh got the first score of the game from a free, with Harps following suit. That set how the game played out. Half time the teams were level at 1-03 a piece. The teams remained level for 20 mins of the second with both sets of defenders working under serious pressure. At the 20-minute mark, Louise Mahoney gave Harps the lead with a free and Harps finished out stronger with another point leaving it Cappagh 2-05 The Harps 2-07.

The journey has ended too soon for this amazing group of girls who are gutted, and very much wanted to bring Cappagh to a Leinster Final.

On behalf of the club, we would like to thank the team and management for a wonderful year as they now move up to Senior in 2024.

We would also like to thank the supporters for coming out in droves to cheer them on. A special thanks on the day to Leinster Camogie for their support, Sandra Reilly, Margaret Sexton and Austin Crowe (Kildare Camogie). Karl Gormley for the promotional photos and on the day, Cathal McCarron sang Aran na bhfiann and all our club members who helped prepare the grounds, organised the parking, and helped with refreshments afterward. The journey might have ended too soon but the pride in these girls will continue on.
